I just found a site called
Retrozone, which seems like a pretty random mish-mash of old pin-ups, snapshots and ads from the '30s through the '70s. Sites like this are a great resource for people trying to recreate the look of a particular time period, because they provide reference for the color palettes, lighting techniques and compositions that were popular at the time.
Actually, writing this post has given me an idea: I'm going to add a new category of links to sites which have good reference images.
